It is deciduous with a bushy, upright habit and leathery, glossy, dark green leaves that change to deep red in autumn. Long clusters of creamy white flowers are borne in June, followed by clusters of berries, initially white, then ripening to pink and finally turning blue black. Quite unusual in cultivation.
